Closet Monster, Pitch Black, My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio

Closet Monster, Pitch Black, My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio
2003 05 19

So the other day was the Closet Monster / Pitch Black / My Chemical Romance / Alkaline Trio show. It was actually at the Guvernment, not Kool Haus, which surprised me. But anyways, I got to the venue and found Jackie, David, Jenn, Crystal, RJ, and their friends waiting in line. It wasn't a bad wait, because I got there late, around 5. Persia's mom drove us there. I really want to thank her for inviting me and thank Julia for giving me her ticket, that was supernice of the two of them.

Anyways, right when I got there Gerard from MCR came out so I got a picture with him, and he signed my MCR CD. It now looks like this:

As soon as David sends me the picture of me and Gerard, I will post it on here. My hair was like blowing in the wind, hahaha. Funny stuff.

So when we entered the venue I found it to be tiny. It had this little stage. One thing that bothered me was that the stage was higher up than I'm used to. So all night I kind of had to look up to see the bands.

The first thing I did upon entering the venue was to go to the merch counter. I only had $1.50 on me because it was such short notice. I wanted an MCR pin, but they only sold sets of 5 for $5. Fortunately, the nice merch guy gave me one for free.

I found Closet Monster to be amazing. To tell you the truth, I thought they would have sucked because they played poppy music with Avril Lavigne, but these guys were really good political punk. They reminded me alot of Anti-Flag. Except Anti-Flag's intruments are better. But the singing and the lyrics were very Anti-Flag-ish. Closet Monster were my second favourite band of the night, they came very close to MCR.

One thing I definitely regret is not going to enough punk shows. I love emo but if I see Dashboard Confessional one more time, I will throw his little emo ass into Lake Ontario.

The only thing bad thing about Closet Monster was that their bass broke a few songs into their set. But it was okay because they just borrowed Pitch Black's bass.

Now I have to say... Pitch Black sucked! Their guitars were really bothering me, I was only listening to the drumming, which was okay. Their singer desperetly needed to:
1. Wash his hair.
2. Fix his part.
3. Cut his hair.
Also, their guitar broke too (the instruments were cursed.) But they took longer to figure out what to do, and they just like tried to tune it for 10 minutes. Closet Monster just played without their bass until they got a new one.

One strange thing about Pitch Black was that their had this tambourine player. The thing was... He couldn't hit it on time! I am so serious. I could do a better tambourine playing job than him. Also, they had fake accents while singing, but I couldn't understand what they were saying. So they sucked.

Then came MCR. They were really good, and I was glad they played Headfirst For Halos. Good song! Gerard was basically in front of me the whole time. When MCR came on, the crowd parted going and I was getting shoved a bit. I felt a little sick, but stayed because MCR are really good. Also, The Clone turned out to be Mickey Way, which surprised me because I forgot about him from when I saw MCR before. They played quickly and loudly, and I liked watching Frank move around.

Then came Alkaline Trio. I must admit, I'm not really into them, but it must have been an amazing show for anyone who is a big fan of theirs. They played a ton of songs, and didn't fool around talking between songs. I found that really cool. The only weird thing was, they didn't do an encore! I think that really let everyone down because we were all expecting an encore.

At the end of Alkaline Trio some crowd surfer landed on my head and I thought I was going to throw up so I left the front. They were okay though, and the crowd seemed to love them.

After the show, I talked to some friends and bought an Alkaline Trio pin, which I was alot. It was the gray one. Then Jackie went to get her stuff from Jude/Jenn/Marta's car and I found Persia and Robyn. We then went to wait for a ride home by Loblaws.
