Hopesfall/Snapcase/The Juliana Theory
<< 2003-03-21 - 10:22 p.m. >>

Well, this was my first concert at The Opera House. Of course, we managed to get lost right away by going to Queen Street West instead of Queen Street East. But we took the streetcar back, found the place, and all was good.

We got there about 2 hours early, which seemed like a good time to be there. There were only a few people in line ahead of us. There was also a Pizza Pizza down the street where we could eat and warm up so the location was pretty good. We talked to this dude in line, R.J., and it turned out he had been at most of the other concerts I had been to so that was pretty cool.

The Opera House is pretty good with lines and letting you in on time, although they do make X's on your hands if you're underage. Anyways, they let us in after a quick search and off to the stage it was.

There was the usual waiting time. I was up right at the front, which made for some pretty good pictures. Hopesfall were on first and they were definitely the craziest out of the three bands. Everyone seemed pretty into them and I didn't get shoved around too badly. The singer seemed quite taken to staring into space. If you ever go see Hopesfall I have some advice for you: watch out for the maniac guitarist. With my luck I was right in front of him and he waved his guitar all around like a crazy person. I was very scared of getting hit in the head.

Next were Snapcase, who were amazing. They started out with Coagulate and second was my favourite song, Caboose. When Snapcase came on I just left everyone else and sang (screamed?) and danced by myself. I think I looked pretty odd but they were so great and I was so into them, especially since it was my first time seeing them live.

After Snapcase were done this girl asked for their drumsticks, and gave me one! I actually got a lot of free things there. Two CDs, a sticker, a guitar pick, a bottle of water, and a drumstick? Nice.

The Juliana Theory came on and what can I say. I wasn't too into them before but they put on a good show as well. The singer danced around like Michael Jackson during Emotion Is Dead. Everyone sang along to the slow songs, it was nice. For some reason though I couldn't hear him very well, I thought something was wrong with the microphone but it only seemed to be the people at the front who couldn't hear.

Anyways, the Opera House is great. It wasn't violent, huge, and there was space upstairs to sit. There wasn't a barrier between the stage and the audience. I loved it.
