Moneen, Hot Rod Circuit, The Get Up Kids
<< 2003-04-02 - 4:18 p.m. >>

So the concert started out with the usual skipping last period to bus down to Kool Haus. We got there are 3 and had a 3.5 hour wait, luckily it was fairly nice out. While waiting, we drew all over my poncho (which came in useful, as you will soon find out!) Later David showed up and I passed out flyers for him.

When I got in we went straight to the front and managed to get a great spot. I stayed there the whole concert. And what a surprise, this dude that used to go to my work is now a security guard at Kool Haus, along with Dan the cool security man!

Moneen were crazy, what can I say. The singer had a lot of energy. He climbed on the speakers and the crowd was pretty into them so he climbed onto the bar and let this one guy sing. They jumped into the crowd and it was pretty cool. Their bassist was very cute. I don't have any of Moneen's CDs but they are definitely a band I'd see live again.

I feel slightly bad for Hot Rod Circuit. This was my second time seeing them, and both times they had hard acts to follow or open for. Poor Hot Rod Circuit just didn't seem as good after Moneen. However, the guitarist was insane again. He had on a red jumpsuit and played in a lot of weird ways, like from lying on the ground. It was cool that Hot Rod Circuit played Radio Song, that's a great song.

The Get Up Kids opened with Holiday. Sadly, they did not play Long Goodnight and after when I met the singer he said that song sucked (hopefully he was kidding!) I think the highlight of GUK's performance was when they played I'm A Loner Dottie, A Rebel. It had a great crowd reaction, plus I knew all the words.

One funny thing about the Get Up Kids was that before the show a friend was on the lookout for Get Up Kids (people with Rivers glasses) and when they came on they didn't have any glasses.

Anyways, the bassist Rob was doing this butt thing. He was like moving his leg and half of his butt, it was amusing. Also his brother Ryan had to watch his butt thing the whole time!

The Get Up Kids also seemed to have a lot of fun performing. They drank and smoked onstage. I guess they were pretty drunk by the time the show was over, because when I met the singer he was babbling about killing deer, Canadian accents aboot, moving to Vancouver, and the zoo. No jokes.

I was wearing this big poncho when I got outside. It had pictures of wild animals on it and when I went to get my CD signed Rob wanted to sign my poncho so he did with two markers. Psychedellic, man.
