Dredg, Hot Water Music, Glassjaw, and Sparta So another Kool Haus concert with Shannon! This was a very succesful one. We got to Kool Haus around 3 and there were only 4 people ahead of us in line! We came well prepared for this concert. We took out our garbage bag to sit on, and started eating. The next thing I know, the 4 people ahead of us were standing over us, staring in amazement. So that is how we met the first people, by giving them our extra garbage bag. The wait did not seem very long at all. It wasn't crowded at all, either. The weather was perfect, I didn't even have a coat. While waiting in line, I met the drummer and singer of Glassjaw. Also, I met the dude from kidwithcamera, who was very cool. In fact, I was talking to him across the street when Shannon told me that we were going inside, on time for once. We were literally the 2nd and 3rd people through the door. First we went to merch, and I got Dredg's CD Leitmotif (which came with a free DVD!) and Hot Water Music's CD Forever And Counting. Then it was inside the actual place... first row! I got some awesome pictures. Dredg were on first and were great. They had some really long instrumentals and played really interestingly. One thing the singer did was sing through a trumpet, holding a microphone underneath. What I really noticed about the band was how they captivated everyone. Seriously, there was absolutely no pushing at all and there was also room. I don't think it was possible to not like Dredg that night. Another thing was that they did not talk at all between songs, besides saying "We are Dredg" once. Next came Hot Water Music, which was when the crowd got crazy. They were much faster than I expected and didn't play any songs I knew. But they were pretty good too. There was crowd surfing and stuff then, everyone was moshing around. One surprising thing to me was that even though it was Hot Water Music I was there to see, they weren't my favourite. I seem to like it better when I can sit down and listen to there music on my own time better than seeing them live. Glassjaw was next and they blew me away. I'm normally not too into them but they were great live, Daryl had a lot of energy and they really did well. They played some songs I knew and it was on their set when I heard that Bush was giving the 48 hours thing. They even played a political song about the events that have been going on lately, even if they aren't a political band. At the beginning of their set Daryl pointed at me. If you're a staring maniac you get attention from bands it seems. After Glassjaw's set we left the front, since it was really hard to breathe. In fact, after Glassjaw everyone finally moved since the crowd seemed to be comprised of Glassjaw fans. I couldn't pay too much attention to Sparta but they seemed really good and I was excited when they played their last song, Air. One thing I noticed about Sparta was that the accent the singer uses in their songs is in fact real when he speaks. Now for the people we met... There was the guy that seems to be at every show I go to, the photographer with a shaved head. We said hi. Also, Tyler from jumkedcamera was there and I talked to him. Then there was kidwithcamera. In the crowd I was smushed against a lesbian and her girlfriend, who were 19. There was Jackie, who was the first person in line. Then there was Peter, who was very nice and smiled a lot at everyone. Ryan was a guy our age who came alone. I got some emails so there will be picture tradeage. Also, I ran into Daniel from the pharmacy and had fun drawing on the floor with chalk with him. |
